Thanksgiving Food-Bank Run, 2000

On Thanksgiving 2000, 26 sociable runners and walkers met in front of Rec Hall loaded with pasta, rice, and canned fruits and vegetables, on a pretty, crisp morning for a little 10:00 a.m. run/walk.  The temperature was in the twenties, with the sun shining in a blue sky, as we covered anywhere from three to five miles on the Penn State golf course/bike paths.  We got a thank-you last year from the Food Bank when, I am happy to say, we started this tradition with the help of Megan Dooris; this year's thank-you is copied below.
This is a nice thing to do on Thanksgiving morning, without the reward of a race, t-shirt, or ribbon. It's a chance to exchange holiday greetings with familiar faces as well as new friends, while getting a little exercise and fresh air.  If you weren't able to make it, we'd love to see you next year.
Once again, thanks to all who showed up and helped to put a little extra "give" into Thanksgiving!

Mike:

It's a hectic time here, but I did want to thank you and the Nittany Valley Runners Club for your food donation to us again this year.  Altogether you collected 112 pounds of food ... Good Work!  Your donations helped us provide
Thanksgiving food to 220 households this year.  Thanks once again for thinking of the Food Bank and of those less fortunate among us.
